Guitar shop has two tenants in new addition, plans 35th anniversary event – La Crosse Tribune

Dave’s Guitar Shop owner Dave Rogers has completed a 14,000-square-foot addition to his building, and leased the addition’s first floor to two tenants.

Now, he’s busy preparing for a 35th anniversary celebration July 1 at the guitar shop at 1227 S. Third St.

Coalition Drum Shop and Coalition Board Shop occupy Suite 102 in the addition at 1207 S. Third St. And Commercial AV Systems, LLC, recently signed a lease for the other first-floor suite.

Commercial AV Systems will move from Onalaska to Suite 101 by mid-September, said Dana Erickson, the firm’s president and CEO. It offers professional audio, video, stage and theatrical lighting products and services.

“We feel our business complements Dave’s business, and vice versa,” Erickson said of moving his business to the new addition. For more information, visit www.commav.com or the firm’s Facebook page.

Rogers plans to use the second floor of the two-story addition as warehouse space for his guitar business. But if it turns out he doesn’t need all of the second-floor space, Rogers said, he might lease out some of it.

“We’re trying to make this kind of a music campus,” Rogers said of encouraging music-related businesses to move near his guitar shop. “It’s a draw and it will be a draw for bands even moreso” with the additional businesses.

Earlier this year, another music-related business, Instrument Repair of La Crosse moved from 10th Street to 1216 S. Third St., across the street from Dave’s Guitar Shop.

Rogers started his business in 1982 with 17 guitars in a tiny rented space on Ward Avenue.

Today, he has more than 3,000 guitars in his inventory. The store has sold guitars to such music stars as Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan, and sold an amplifier to the Rolling Stones.

Rogers will celebrate his shop’s 35th anniversary on July 1 with giveaways, live music and special guests — such as guitar maker Paul Reed Smith, who is founder and owner of PRS Guitars. For more information, visit www.davesguitar.com or the shop’s Facebook page.
